Yes. Cedar Spirit Foundation holds its own IRS 501(c)(3) determination (EIN 33-2005800, effective November 17, 2024). Public charity status: 170(b)(1)(A)(vi).

Is Cedar Spirit fiscally sponsored by Chuckanut Health Foundation?

No. Cedar Spirit Foundation holds its own 501(c)(3) determination. Chuckanut Health Foundation provides administrative services — banking, accounting, payroll, and donation processing — under a partnership arrangement. CHF is our admin services partner, not a fiscal sponsor.

How are donations administered?

Donations are processed through Chuckanut Health Foundation’s secure Charity Proud portal. CHF charges a 2% administrative fee for processing and accounting services. The remaining 98% flows directly to Cedar Spirit Foundation programs.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes. Cedar Spirit Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You will receive a receipt from CHF for tax purposes.

Who is eligible for a scholarship?

Indigenous students enrolled in or applying to higher education programs are eligible. Specific scholarship criteria vary by program — the Lynda Zambrano Legacy Scholarship, for example, focuses on Emergency Management education for Tribal scholars. See our Programs page for full details.
